Professor Benjamin Tan currently holds the positions of Professor of Nursing and Associate Dean Research at Charles Darwin University (CDU). He is also an Adjunct Professor in the School of Clinical Medical Sciences at Southwest Medical University. Benjamin currently leads the Charles Darwin Centre for Evidence-Based Practice as the Foundation Co-Director and the Mental Health and Supportive Care Research Group as the Co-Head at CDU College of Nursing and Midwifery. He has accumulated extensive institutional leadership experiences in a number of governance roles including the Associate Dean Research, Associate Dean International, Centre Co-Director, Higher Degree by Research Course Director, Research Group Co-Head, and Research Group Lead.
Benjamin’s interdisciplinary programs of research focus on empirical development and the evaluation of evidence-based supportive care interventions for cancer symptom management. He and his interdisciplinary research team have developed and sustained intensive linkages with research collaborators in Australia, HKSAR, Singapore, the UK, and China Mainland, which have so far resulted in over 100 high-quality publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference presentations, as well as more than 26 funded projects with a total award exceeding AUD$2.6 million. His research has been adopted in numerous international and national practice guidelines, including those developed by the European Society for Medical Oncology, the American College of Chest Physicians, Cancer Care Ontario, the UK National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, the US Department of Veterans Affairs/Department of Defence, China Anti-Cancer Association, and the US Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
Benjamin’s exceptional professional leadership in developing editorial and peer-review policies and procedures has been internationally recognised. He is a Topic Editor for Front Oncol, an Academic Editor for Evid Based Complementary Altern Med, J Oncol and PLOS One, and an Editorial Board Member for BMC Palliat Care and Eur J Oncol Nurs. He is on the international review panel of the STTI to review research grant applications and has contributed to over 160 reviews for high-impact journals. Benjamin’s outstanding journal review contributions have been well recognised with Outstanding Reviewer Awards granted by Int J Nurs Sci in three consecutive years (2017–2019). Publons awarded him two Peer Review Awards and placed him among the top 1% of global reviewers in Nursing (2017) and in Clinical Medicine (2018).
